We have gone twice and Absolutely love the Unique Sushi options. Our server Lis is very accommodating and professional. First time we went the owner came by and said hi which is always a good sign. We highly recommend it.

Best sushi with a Latin touch, superb service. I like the full menu but i have to say Meat Lovers is my favorite. But then.... Mmmmm.... Actually they are all good...

When it comes to sushi, I'm quite particular. Since trying Sugar Fish in LA, nothing can compare. Then I found Ikura. Not only doas the chef know about traditional Japanese techniques, he understands the flavor palate. Of the many plates I had, many gave me that umami feeling. It was relatively empty, but deserves a lot more attention.

The sushi rolls had some unique twists that were delicious! I would definitely come back again.

The best sushi place in Coral Gables. I Love it. My favorite is the green apple. But then again, I love them all!! Great service and cleanness

Quite possibly the most terrible sushi I have ever had. Anyone with a pallet, stay far away from this place. Buyers remorse.

Where to begin ... I don't discredit the glowing reviews previously posted, however, last week I had one of the worst meals of my life at this restaurant. My fiance and I are new in town, and we craved a low-key delicious dinner after a long day of traveling here from New York ... Ikura Sushi Lounge was anything but ... We got to the restaurant around 7:30 p.m., and about 10 of the 15 tables were full. After ordering water - which was the only satisfying thing this restaurant provided- I noticed no one was eating. It took one hour for our edamame to be brought to the table, and during this time I noticed two couples complain to the waiter about the timeliness of food delivery and then get up and leave. After sitting in a state of starvation for 90 minutes (albeit having inhaled our overly salted edamame), we asked the waiter - who was very friendly despite a working for a clearly incompetent chef- when our two rolls might be delivered. He then informed us the delay is due to the fact that the normal chef was absent, and his replacement was "working as hard as he could." Unfortunately, they would have done better business if they had closed for the night. Nearly two irreplaceable hours of our lives later, we received two tasteless platters of cheesy, foul, baked sushi. We left the restaurant at 9:30pm to pick up some cheese and crackers to fill our achingly hungered bellies. I will generously offer this place - which doesn't even deserve to be called a restaurant- two stars because the waiter seemed kind and comped us an order of edamame and tuna tartar. There are plenty of sushi options in this neighborhood, so do yourself a favor and stay away from this one. It appears to be a crapshoot to see if the "real chef" will be in.

Honey shrimp app is great. Marks, Ninja and Volcano rolls are all very good but similar in taste (tuna lover rolls). The molten lava dessert was a MOUTH.

I loved this place!!! Our waitress was very attentive, helpful, and pleasant. We were a party of two and ordered edemame for appetizer which besides the salt had some pepper that gave it a spicy twist. We ordered two rolls to share which were bigger than most sushi rolls at other restaurants. The first was called Giralda which was wrapped with soy paper that gave it a delicious crunchiness, the second one was probably the best sushi I have had in a long time if not ever, called urakami mango, it was the perfect combination of sweet and spicy I definitely had a sushigasm with that one! Then to end our meal we ordered a dessert called coquito, if I remember correctly it was like pound cake with a rum sauce, vanilla ice cream and condensed milk it was a great ending to a delicious meal. Can't wait to come back!!

The rolls are really creative and varied. Even people who don't enjoy fish could enjoy then as not all are typical sushi rolls; the meat lover roll is an example made with churrasco, sweet plantain, cream cheese, avocado and many other treats. The menu had enough but not too much that it becomes overwhelming. The service is really great and nothing I had was bad. The price is a tad up there but it wouldn't keep me from here.

Place was small and quiet. But food was GREAT and flavorful. Had a roll with mango that was AMAZING and crunchy. Sooo good! Friendly service from the staff. Nice for a low key night out.

My husband and I tried this restaurant last night for the first time and will definitely be back. After a recommendation from the server we tried the Kanikama Crunch appetizer and it was AMAZING! I would go back just for that! We then split two specialty rolls, the Jalapeno Juata and Girala Roll. They were both imaginative and delicious!! Very different than the typical specialty roll you see at most sushi restaurants. My husband also had a few pieces of sashimi and we left full and happy. The service was also wonderful, which is hard to find in Miami. Definitely give this place a try.

Great sushi rolls and the best ceviche I've ever had. I was a bit surprised at first that it did not seem to have a traditional sushi bar, but boy did that not matter after the first bite. The BOMB!

The service alone drops three stars itself, and the food isn't good enough to make up for that. Not worth the time and money! Sushi Rocks is better. PW

My favorite sushi place in the area! Very fresh fish, great service, and also delivers. The whole package! Highly recommend.

  • Carlos B.

The great location was inviting so I gave Ikura a try. First things first, LIPTON green tea?really? Service was good but the entrees were unusually small. My rice was undercooked and the fish fresh was suspect. The great service momentarily brightened up a dull experience.

This place was different from just a regular sushi place. If you're looking for traditional japanese sushi, this isn't the place. If you're looking for something different that is a twist of japanese and latin flavors, this is the place to go! This place is definitely a good date place because you both will be experiences something interesting and yummy together. We had the apple sushi roll, meat lovers roll and the sashimi roll. The meat lovers roll definitely had the latin flare with the steak, sweet plantains and cilantro sauce. All the rolls we had were fresh and delicious! Im glad I was introduce to Ikura Sushi because it was a nice new experience!

  • Veronica O.

Absolutely amazing! The sushi was delicious, the customer service was exceptional. It's a nice small restaurant, good ambiance for a date. They took the time to customize one if our rolls and made sure it had everything we wanted. I would definitely recommend.!!

This place was a joke. First of all, the service was terrible. The waitress had no idea what any of the items were on the menu. I asked her about several items and she had no clue what they were or how to explain them at all. Then we ordered some rolls, sashimi and sushi and they came plated with no wasabi. So I asked for some and she went "to ask about it." She came back to let us know that they did not have any wasabi (and did not seem to understand why we thought that was funny). One person ordered the chicken teriyaki skewer, which came with a salad. The chicken had no teriyaki sauce and the salad had no dressing in it. I asked for some and the waitress, again finding nothing strange about the dry salad, told me they sold "sauces" for $1 that I could order. The other problem was that we had one soup come out, then the chicken, 22 minutes later a hand roll, and we are still waiting for three more peoples' orders. 45 minutes into out lunch there was still a person who had not received their food (the rest of us had gotten our food and finished completely while she was still waiting). Finally the last meal came out and I asked to speak with a manager and was told there was no manager or own with whom to speak. I said the food took forever and she said "oh my bad." Then told me that they are a sushi restaurant and focus on that and that is why the food took so long. Needless to say, I will never return to this restaurant again.

The Giralda sushi didn't look promising, but boy did it melt in our mouths! Best sushi I've ever tried, and we go around for sushi often! We ate like kings, for $23 on Groupon we got any appetizer and any two rolls.

    (5)
  • Matt S.

Seriously the best sushi we have had in Miami! The jalapeño yaita is to die for!! Highly recommend!!

    (5)
  • Laly G.

Pleasantly surprised by the tasty options. Went to try it out with a Groupon and all the options were very good. Agree with others that the yaita roll is worth trying. Great customer service as well

A great addition to downtown Coral Gables. Nice to go to a sushi place like this that feels modern, intimate, plays good music, and most importantly, serves great sushi rolls. Great value too, the rolls are gigantic and I'd suggest ordering different ones and getting half-sizes. Will definitely be back.

What a great journey We had when My husband and I Decide to have dinner at ikura . Since the first moment we walked in we were welcome with a smile . The atmosphere is so laid back just a perfect place to relax and enjoy great food and company . Chef Chris was so professional, friendly willing to recommend us his best Rolls,. the toma -tu Heat roll and the green apple roll was just amazing the mix of flavor were just perfect . never had anything like this before was an amazing experience to start our night . The white wine recommend for the waiter was just a great choice . I'm Peruvian and I had to try the tiraditos I love spicy food so I was excited to try this one specially if had rocoto ( Peruvian Rocoto chile pepper ) had to say brought me back memories from home . The taste the texture all together were like having home made tiraditos at home , try the ceviche a mix of white fish and oranges with some slices of baked potatoes yummy ! Every roll the chef Chris recommend us was amazing .......... so different and unique on its own taste , we ate like kings ...wow . definitely I have to give this place 5 star for the quality of sushi and the service . :)

Amazing food, awesome service!!! Would give Ikura 10 stars if possible! Their unique combination of flavors makes their sushi rolls unforgettable! I truly love this restaurant! My coworkers fell in love too and go at least once a week. I recommend it to everybody and once they try it, I get the same response: "The food was incredible!"

Best sushi I have had in a while! We had to wait a while for the food, but the wait was worth it.

I was looking forward to tasting Ikura's sushi as part of Giralda under the stars on Friday. My boyfriend made us a reservation and we arrived at 7pm to find the street bustling, but ikura was closed. They had not called us to notify us that they would be closed so we could make reservations elsewhere. They certainly didn't make a good first impression on us and we haven't even tried the food...

    (1)
  • Angeline M.

AMAZING!! Try the Jalapeno Yaita roll. It is amazing and not very spicy like you would think. The best roll I've ever had, EVER! The Giralda roll was also great. Our new sushi spot!!

  • Damaris G.

Excellent atmosphere .... Gourmet presentation Added touch of spice to the traditional rolls Definitely A+++++++

    (5)
  • Dara B.

Even though the inside is small, the taste and quality of the food is great. For yelp member, Ikura offers the kanikama crunch salad, one per table. I ordered the honey shrimp which was okay. After reading the reviews, I had to try the green apple roll. Now that roll was delicious!!! I would definitely come back here again. TIP : Be sure to read the parking signs. Even though there is a meter, after 5 pm the restaurants use most of the street parking as valet. I got towed. Seeing empty parking spots on the street and thinking "woohoo I got a spot" is very deceiving!!! The spots are empty for a reason.

  • Fernando R.

Sushi was simply OK. If you're looking for quality Sushi try Akashi in the gables or south Miami. Won't be coming here again. Pricing was also a bit high. $16-$18 dollars for a roll.

Excellent services and great food! I just love this place. Ask for Kanikama Crunch and of course de Miami Sushi!!

Nice Place for Sushi in Giralda Avenue. The service is great and sushi is good in quantity, taste and size of the rolls.

Authentic Japanese cuisine. No fusion style, just the true, minimalist and delicious Japanese staples. Mouthwatering rolls, sashimi, and award deserving Gyozas.

Best sushi in town! Amazing food, amazing people absolutely good one of my favorite places in town food it's crazy good!!!!!

    (5)
  • Sebas P.

The place is dark, a bad combination between sushi and lounge music, the waitress had no idea about the wines they had, we asked for a glass of wine and they offered us a RED WINE that was in the fridge, we said no to that and they said that the Pinot noir was good (the worst red wine I have ever tried) we had to return it. We asked for two rolls: the first one has too much lettuce on it and the second (one of the most expensive in the menu) was ok. Finally check... They charged us for the water! Not going back ever again.

Words that make anyone want to become a Yelper: free appetizer upon checking in! Most of the appetizers at Ikura's run between $10-$16, so take advantage of the offer. Shreya M. and I ordered both the kanikami crunch and the honey shrimp ($23 in savings!) and didn't regret a single bite. (Although our waists might beg to differ after we finished our meals.) Having eaten honey walnut shrimp frequently while growing up, I thought that the honey shrimp was good but didn't stand out in particular. The kanikama crunch, on the other hand, is a house favorite that makes anyone salivate. It's an imitation crab salad mixed with tobiko, panko flakes, green onions, unagi sauce, and spicy mayo that makes you want to eat the whole dish by yourself! The sushi rolls came out on long plates that never seemed to end, easily fitting 10-12 slices per roll. I ordered the uramaki mango roll, which was mildly spicy and utterly fantastic since you can never go wrong with tempura shrimp, salmon, and mango. But my favorite was the meat lovers' roll: a baked roll with churrasco (grilled skirt steak), plantain, avocado, and topped with chimichurri sauce. A definite Latin/Japanese fusion, but a delicious one nonetheless! Especially when washed down with a carafe of lychee sake. All in all, Ikura's is a lovely place to grab sushi. The Yelp deal of spending $10 to get $20 and the free app makes it even more palatable, but you can't use both deals at the same visit. If you get a chance, take the window seat and sit on pillows for the night; they're surprisingly comfortable and makes the meal feel just a tad more authentic. For a Japanese fusion place in Miami, visit Ikura's!

  • Tatiana H.

They're creative with their sushi rolls. We had the Miami roll (with maduros on top) & the trio hamachi roll with cold unfiltered sake & some house sake. The place was a basically empty yet service was a bit slow. Definitely not your traditional sushi place.

    (3)
  • Jaime B.

Try the Meat Lover's roll. Not "Japanese" but who cares, it's excellent! The Giralda roll is another good one.

  • Chloe F.

Headed over for lunch with a girlfriend about 2 weeks ago and we both had a nice time. We ordered the sushi tortilla and the chef was nice enough to split it into two mini version as one of us wanted the spice and the other did not. Really went out of his way, especially during a lunch rush.

    (4)
  • Celso P.

Nice place for lunch. Went with a friend--it was quiet, and we got good service. Had the Kanikama Salad (free if you check in with Yelp). Then my friend and I had a Bento Box each, shared half a roll, and had the Coquito for dessert. Overall it was an enjoyable meal at a reasonable price.

Okay, it's time...past time really for a review of the sushi restaurant that has hands down become my favorite in Miami. Had a dontrememberwhichvoucher, one of 'em for $10 off 20. Went there, pulled up and saw a sign on the door indicating that they had some beef with the city of Coral Gables and had to close to repair a water leak in a wall or some such, Bottom line, CLOSED! :-( Called the number on the sign and received a call back shortly, explained the situation and how my voucher was about to expire and Owner, (mgr.?) told me "no worry, call the voucher company and they would extend it. Okay, done. Went back 2ish months later 1 week before new voucher date expires again and they were STILL closed...Sorta forget about it, figuring voucher would always be good for what I paid, just not the bonus amount. Oh well... Just happened to spot The restaurant while driving through the Gables a month later, parked, went in and mentioned my expired voucher which they said they certainly WOULD honor and not only did they, but they gave me a coupon for a free appetizer next trip there, as well as a Kanikama Crunch gratis, which is insanely delicious. ..What we ordered was outstanding.. Honey Shrimp, Gyosas w/ sweet Shiro sauce, and they brought a sample of Maguro Tayaki which is the first dish I will order next trip. Suggestive selling works!. A small place, comfortable in a classy yet minimalistic almost intimate fashion. Something very nice about gazing out their bay window at rain in the gables... Their happy hour extends till 8 and all drinks, beer, wine and sake are half price. There is also a selection of appetizers, small plates, Zesai plates that are $5.00. Smaller than normal sized but a great way to taste many selections They do deliver free of charge through Grub Hub Min. $12.50 I think what most stands out in my mind is the wonderfully gracious and welcoming personnel from the manager to the servers to Chef Chris who I understand has since moved on. Considered by quite a few to many to be the best sushi chef in the 305, wherever he's gone to will be a winner, no doubt.. I look forward to helping set up a dinner visit there for my sushi group in the near future as I am promised "something special"...Can't wait! Visit their beautiful and musical web page for hours and the menu. ikurasushilounge.com/#!m… Ikura, Sushi lounge you are a gem and I thank you for your exemplary customer service, delightfully friendly staff and innovative and delicious fare.

So I tried to come again and it was worse. They are under staffed. Our appetizers took 20 minutes and when I asked why she said it was by they had a large take out order which indicates poor planning on a Friday night. Two servers for full restaurant. No air conditioning, it was really really hot. I don't think I'll come back.

    (2)
  • T. B.

Nothing special. The restaurant itself is nice, the service is ok, the sushi is barely ok. Not a good selection (no unagi for example, no real crab either), odd pairings, cream cheese in almost every roll, the menu doesn't feel Japanese at all. The staff doesn't either... The fish was not very fresh either. And it's overpriced. Those who gave this place 5 stars are either getting paid for the review, or they need to go out more.

I wanted to cross this place of the list of the few sushi joints in the Gables that I had not been to. The cheapo in me liked that they had a $10 for $20 deal on yelp. What can I say? IKUUURAAAA!! The location is great (Giralda), the staff was super welcoming. Prices are ok, not cheap, not expensive. For a party of 4, non alcoholic drinks, 4 rolls, 3 salads it was about $90. We left satisfied, but not full. This isn't a place to order your favorite roll... go crazy... try something new. We sure did and every single one of them was delicious. The salads? excellent... the Neptune salad was great... but the Kanikama Crunch salad was even better... **must resist urge to leave work to go pickup a salad** Anyway... Ikura strikes a decent balance between quality and quantity. The rolls are pricey but they are generous. They don't have your average roll, so I encourage picking a few and sharing with the table. We tried the Honey Moon, Volcano, Giralda and Miami rolls... they were all full of flavor and very tasty... a couple of them were on the small side. The waitress was super attentive and pleasant. I think this might be my new favorite sushi place n Miami. Almost, but not quite as good as Weston Sushi & Grill up in.... Weston!

  • Kate K.

Amazing food and service here! I have to say that I've found my new favorite sushi roll here (Miami Roll) and that's saying a lot because I eat out all the time at different sushi places! Everything tasted very fresh and was put together in a way that exceeded my expectations. I was very impressed with everything from my meal, to the quick service, and the chef even came out to check on us and chat! For sure this is my new favorite spot for sushi!

  • Cassie G.

If you're in the Gables and craving sushi, the good news is that you have a lot of options. When our intended restaurant was closed, we had about four other options within walking distance to choose from. I saw a Yelp Deal for Ikura so we bought that and headed there. I also checked in and got a free appetizer! Unfortunately, I didn't realize that meant my Yelp deal would not be honored at the end of our meal. Definitely something to keep in mind... On the plus side, the food was good so I have no qualms about having to come back to use that deal. We got steamed dumplings, salmon tartare and the Meat Lovers roll which was marinated churrasco, sweet plantain, cream cheese and avocado, tempura fried and topped with chimchurri sauce. Definitely not your typical sushi and far from healthy if that's what you're going for but let's be honest, it's delicious. Service was friendly and while the atmosphere isn't anything to write home about, most sushi places look very similar. All in all, a good bet for tasty eats in the sushi-saturated hood of Coral Gables.

  • Thien H.

It took about $90 + tax and tip (6 rolls) to get the two of us full. There was also a free kanikama crunch salad that the sushi chef threw in for free when we sat at the bar. The crunch salad had a bit too much sauce for my liking, but we appreciated the gesture. The rolls were inventive and had some unexpected combinations. I think the salmon rolls were my favorite dish. I think we'll have to keep looking for a joint that has fun rolls, quality sashimi, and is a good value. On a positive note the manager seemed genuinely concerned that we were happy with our food and experience.

Great service. The volcano role was yummy. Also, don't miss out on the free appetizer when checking in.

Amazing sushi, you have the traditional sushi but they have a wide variety of their house special I've tried 3 different sushis, one different from the other and it's hard to choose a favorite.

Great little spot. Tried the Giralda roll, honeymoon roll and the jalapeño roll. All very tasty!!! Will definitely be coming back.

Every roll is pretty unique and flavorful. I definitely recommend the Kanikama Crunch Salad as an appetizer. It is not your typical salad, but very good. They also offer different type of sake flavors (green tea, Apple, lychee). Our waitress was really nice and helpful. Worth your time and money to check out.

Meh. I was excited to try this place but was little disappointed. Sushi is just OK, but not worth the price. There's better, cheaper sushi elsewhere. The Kanikama Salad is worth it, other than that I don't recommend. If you do go, make sure to buy a Yelp deal.

Awful service. The server could not understand what i was saying even though i repeated it 3 times. They brought the miso soup after sushi. To top it all. The server gave part of the change in pennies! Awful.

It's Friday night & my girlfriends are craving sushi. I don't eat seafood much less sushi but they drag me anyways. Boy was I happy to walk into this little gem in the Gables. The staff was friendly & attentive. The decor & ambiance was mellow. Perfect to have a quiet dinner talking amongst friends. I ate the steamed pork gyozas and the meat lovers roll. OMG foodgasm! Definitely a MUST have try! I can't wait to come back for more:)

  • Dale H.

We came in at 8 pm on a friday evening. There was only one waitress working on a busy night in Coral Gables. We saw the 4 star rating on yelp, and had high hopes for some good sushi. I would have to say that well over half of their specialty rolls had cream cheese in them, which wasn't appealing to anyone in our party. We had to ask for water several times, and only recieved our water after an additional waitress started, We asked for wasabi for the 5 of us and got a tiny scoop .Now lets talk fish.... The Sushi was just ok...it wasn't bad, but I don't need to go back. The service was slow, food was just ok, and overall we all left feeling a little disapointed with the four star rating other yelpers gave this restaurant. This is the second four star restaurant in Coral Gables that we have gone to this week.... Not too sure about the yelpers reviews! So far they are 0/2 on the recomendations this week!

Holy kanikama crunch, I'm in LOVE! Please be forewarned, the kanikama crunch salad is HIGHLY addictive. Even my boyfriend, who doesn't like seafood but will always try something at least once, couldn't get enough of this dish. Lucky for me, he had to step away on a phone call and I got to inhale the rest. He wasn't too upset when he returned, because the two rolls that awaited him (yes, I was a good girl and saved him some even though I wanted to shove it all in my face) were DELISH! The jalapeno yaita gets a light torching to the top before served, which gives the jalapeno pepper a nice smokiness that compliments the roll well. The real star though? The green apple roll. Yes, you read right. Green apple roll. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I knew it would be good. This was beyond good. This was a surprise burst of delicate flavors and refreshing uniqueness. Divine. MmmMMMM....I can't wait to go back and try more of their rolls. Although keeping away from kanikama and green apple will be hard...guess it'll have to be a big party to share some variety. Who's in?!?

Ikura Sushi is well worth the trip We discovered Ikura Sushi Lounge while perusing through the restaurants listed on Local Dines, a fabulous website that offers discounted gift certificates at some really good spots. It was a true felicity to dine there. The spot feels like a modern, cozy yet upscalish living room. The ever so talented chef is in the back corner for all to admire, working up his unique and creative slants on sushi. 3 out of the 4 dishes we had were worth ordering again and 2 of them were marvelous. Kanikama Crunch @ Ikura Sushi Lounge The Kanikama Crunch was legitimately incredible. It was comprised of a specialty house crab salad, Tobiko and Crunchy Flakes. The mix of the soft and crunchy consistencies dripping with sweet yet spicy combo was superb. It is one of their best dishes and a must order. Urmaki Mango @ Ikura Sushi Lounge The Urmaki Mango Roll drew our attention because we freaking adore mango and the Shedonist's Dominican nature implores her to order any sushi that comes with cilantro. This unique roll contained: Salmon, Ikura Shrimp, Avocado, Cilantro, Tobiko Mix, Glazed Mangos and Aji Amrillo Sauce. The roll was tasty, unique and the glazed mango was a beautiful touch. Honey Moon @ Ikura Sushi Lounge The Honey Moon Roll was really the only dish we did not love. It had Ikura Shrimp, Kani-kamaboko, Avocado, Cream Cheese, Shaved Roasted Coconut, Almonds, Walnut Dust, Scallions, Sonali Suce and Hachimitsu. The coconut, almond and walnut dust ingredients enticed us and it was good, but it did not blow our palates out of the water. Tom-Atu Heat @ Ikura Sushi Lounge The Tom-Atu Heat Roll was by far our favorite of the night. It was literally mouth-watering. This sublime roll is baked and has Ikura Shrimp, Cream Cheese, Walnuts Dust, Eel Sauce and is topped with the amazing Kanikama Crunch appetizer. It is a triumphant roll that we will definitely drive down to Coral Gables to sample again. The sushi is scrumptious, bountiful (large ass pieces) and there is an abundance of them on the plate. The place is small, so the waiter is always attentive as well as gracious. The prices are reasonable too, with most specialty rolls in the $15 range. It was a sheer delight Ikura, we shall be back again. Thank You.

I came here on a Thursday for lunch. It was completely empty when I got there. I tried to unlock the 10 for 20 coupon here but failed. I ordered the appetizer kanikama and it was good, a good combination of crunchy and soft. The downside is the chef uses too much soy source and it is a bit too salty, even I am a heavy food eater. Overall, the appetizer I got is a 65/100.

Favorite sushi restaurant in the Gables right now! Great service and ever roll that I've had there has been amazing. My favorite roll is the Giralda.

Went for dinner on a Saturday night, restaurant only had two other tables with diners which usually worries me. We decided to order four different kinds of sushi, meat lovers, honey moon, Miami, and volcano. This was our first time dining here so I can't compare the flavor of the rolls now to when chef Chris (mentioned by other reviewers.) Our favorite was the volcano, perfect balance of flavors, just a hint of spice. Second favorite would be the honeymoon, loved the coconut and almonds all over the outside of the rolls. I did think that the Miami was a little bland and the meat lovers I wouldn't order again. We tried their kanikama crunch at a yelp event and I loved it, slightly sweet and crunchy, I'd definitely order it as an appetizer the next time I go. Not sure why the restaurant was empty on a Saturday night because I really liked it, service was good and the volcano roll alone is worth coming for.

Great place, great food our waiter I believe was venezuelan and she always was on top of everything, I recommend you to try that Giralda and Honey moon roll !!! Great job.

I really Like this place, the waitress was very nice and the food very good. Kanikama crunch is a must, excellent and good size. Afterwards we had the volcano and the giralda, both very good and very fresh. The salad was on the house so the two rolls and two cokes were 43 bucks tip included. We will come back for sure.

Small portions little fish in the rolls, high prices and a waitress that seemed to never have waited tables in her like. I apologize for the ranting but I'll never return.

Just finished lunch and I have to say the food was incredible. The Chiefs are not afraid to try new concepts. Is the risk worth the reward? In this case yea, there specialty sushi rolls are awesome and so is the staff. This is the kind of place that would say the customer was right, even if they were wrong! two thumbs up

Why?!!!! Why??!!! Why???!!! Chef Chris!! Please COME BACK! without you Ikura has lost some pizzazz... Where did the sauces go??? Why?!!! Just like Miami to open up and amazing spot and go and start changes as soon as things start getting good. Ikura is still a great tasting restaurant but I am a firm believer that a restaurants cook is it's heartbeat, when you lose a good one you just cut through a main artery. I'll still order my jalapeño roll but I can't lie the change has made me truly sad. Chef Chris if you're reading this...we miss you! Bring the sauces back!

Service was terrible. We were the only table on a Friday night and the waitress was talking to a friend outside. The fish was not fresh. I bought 2 yelp deal and I will just take the loss because I don't think I'll ever come back. Now I know why we were the only table on a Friday night.

This place is the king in my book!!!! A lil hidden gem that I found by accident that ended up being my answer from the sushi gods!!!! I'm telling you they have the best best best best rolls I've had in Miami to date.. Perfect lil date spot! Small and intimate great service and REEEEEEDIIIIIICCCULOUS FOOD!!!!! If you want to go on a lil special sushi date, this is the spot... Believe me when I tell you!! And you have to have the kani Kama salad!!!! That is a must!!!!!!!! Ask about it and I bet you you will be hooked!!!!

My new favorite sushi spot! Sushi is very fresh and staff was amazing. I've tried several rolls and they were all delicious! Oh, and the Kanikama Crunch salad is addicting. I've visited Ikura twice already and cannot wait to return!

Don't get all the great reviews. Went there on a Saturday night and it was completely empty with the worst atmosphere. Now the food - ordered 5 different rolls. 1 was good and the other 4 were horrible. Even sent back one of them. The fish is poorly cut (hacked almost) into huge pieces. some of their sauces taste weird and don't compliment the sushi at all. Not coming back here. Sorry guys, but you need to do a much better job with your fish.

Walking around the Gables, we ended up here. Restaurant seemed pretty full, but we were seated right away. There was a large group in the main rooom next to the bar that was incredibly loud and drunk - and this I am not holding against the restaurant, but overall made this 2 star experience feel like it deserved 0. I do have to say, the Yelp deals are cool, free crunchy crab salad thing with a check in - this was the highlight of the night; great flavor, texture, and a nice size portion. Unfortunately, its downhill from here... My wife ordered the glazed chicken bento box, and I ordered the meat lovers roll. I realize in hindsight that the steak in a roll should have been avoided, but with so many pictures of it on yelp, and the waitresses recommendation convinced me to try it. After about 40 minutes, my roll finally showed up (i was warned it was an item that can take longer) and I found it horrible. Way too little steak, and the textures were horrible. My wife received her miso soup around the same time - there was something very wrong with it. Neither of us enjoyed it. Then, 15 minutes after I get my roll, her glazed chicken finally comes out - flavorless, over breaded, mall-food-looking, honey drenched chicken tenders. In the end, perhaps we should have stuck to simple sushi, and I would have enjoyed my dinner. I really wanted to enjoy this place, but if you put it on a menu, it represents your restaurant. Unfortunately for this restaurant, this was my experience.

[ June, 2014 ] Ikura was surprisingly good sushi, and there were some really good options (try the roll topped off with plantains). Definitely recommend giving it a try.

  • Stefani G.

Everything was great but the only thing I'd've changed was the explanation of the food. I knew what I'd ordered but I would've liked a brief explanation of my food. And the wait for sushi was ridiculously long.... Considering we were the only customers at the time.. Yet, besides that... Everything was delicious!! Try the ceviche roll!! And the meat lovers roll!!! Gyozaz are a must..... Beware, however, because the sushi takes a long time so it gives the meat time to settle...

It's been a while since I took my old man out to dinner, so I had him pick me up and the first words out of his mouth was " I want to eat SUSHI" to my exciment I had just finished watching Ikura sushi lounge on nbc 6 news doing a live sushi demo, best part was it is 5 minutes away from my apartment. WOW is the first word thats came to mind after finishing dinner! this is not your typical sushi spot, there is a great blend of japanese style and latin america ceviche feel to this place. Every roll on the menu is unique and gears off the ordinary dragon roll , jb roll, and california roll you can find every well else. Food- 1. Tuna Tataki- AMAZING! Again not your ordinary tuna tataki, this was crusted with cajun spice dipped in just the right amount of soy sauce. must try you wont regreat it 2. Tom-atu-heat roll- a perfect combination of shrimp, cream cheese, walnutdust, eel sauce, topped with kanikama crunch ready for the best part???.... it's BAKED! i have yet to try the whole menu but I am pretty sure this will always be my favorite. 3.Skinny tuna roll- Tuna/seweed/avocado/sliced almonds/soy pepper and ready for the best part.... Passion fruit dressing!!! the passion fruit adds the right tangy zest to it that takes you by surprise. Again I can not wait to try the rest of the menu! 4. Coquito float- first time trying coquito and I promise it wont be the last! coquito flavored icreacream atop of a piece vanilla cake. a great way to end a great meal. Service- Our waitress name was Lexi, and man was she on her A game. despite the restaurant being busy she managed to really cater to my dad and I and never skipped a step. Food and beverages were never delayed. Best part was the chef, Chef Chris Rojas himself delivered our rolls himself and asked how everything was going and what we thought about the food. Great place to come have some great unique sushi and be pampered with great service! my hats goes off to the chef. *great yelp check in offer! free appetizer

really good service, great food. Rolls run from 14-20 dollars. Had the trio roll and wish I could have had kanikami crunch roll which by the way if you check into yelp you can get it for free. Will be back again.

  • Valerie M.

The best sushi I've ever had!! Very creative rolls and the kanikama crunch salad is a must!! The green tea ice cream is good but the cinnamon sauce and toasted coconut really make it special. Service was a little slow but I like to think it's because every roll is made with care, by hand and the waitress was very nice and attentive. Tucked away off the main Mile, this little gem should not be missed!

Fantastic sushi place. Nice quality fish, excellent customer service and a wonderful ambiance. All aspects of this meal surpassed my expectations - as far as sushi goes in Miami, this has been the best I've had.

Great little Sushi Spot in Coral Gables. Nice decor and good friendly service. The Kanikama Crunch appetizer was OK. Probably, would try something different next time. The Nigiri Sea roll was unique (no rice), interesting and tasty. And the Spicy Maguro roll was very good too. When in the Gables, Ikura Sushi is on my go to list.

Disappointed. $18 for a simple yellowtail scallion roll?? Fish was fresh, but special rolls not really special. Overall it's kinda pricey for what they offer.

I have to say this is say this is not your regular "california roll" sushi place. Whoever designed the menu, really put a lot of thought into it. We asked our waitress for a recommendation for appetizer and she suggested the Kani Salad, as she described as "addictive". Sure enough, the crab meat along with the spicy mayo, eel sauce, scallions and a cruchy ingredient served perfectly in an artsy manner was indeed addictive. Even my "I don't like seafood" daughter loved it. I ordered the Jalapeño roll which was delicious and looked almost too perfect to eat. My husband tried the lobster roll along with a cilantro sauce the waitress suggested to try. Not bad at all. My daughter had the honey moon roll. Sushi portions are big so we thought. We had some left overs. We will definitely go back for some more Kani salad!!

YUM. I looked up a sushi place that delivered and wow, in this area there are a LOT that deliver and quite a lot that have good Yelp reviews. I was torn between several potential lovers and I went for this one. VERY GLAD I chose them. I ordered -- based on Yelp reviews, the Tom-Atu Heat roll (divine) and the Uramaki Mango - which has an incredible special sauce with it that packs the HEAT. Here is my observation- clearly I am a sushi whore, going to lots of sushi restaurants and thus I can speak to the variety of places out there and degrees of quality. I feel that this place is a step up on the quality and creativity of the rolls. I usually order one roll and all the rest sashimi but my body wanted carbs today so we did two rolls. These are just DIFFERENT--- you know how you can sometimes look at a menu and get bored because no matter what city you are in it's the same 8 ingredients shuffled around. Not here-- at least not in the sampling I ordered. The sashimi is one piece per order (not stated on the menu) and the salmon slices were very thick, so I had 3 pieces and that was plenty. Seaweed salad was also perfect and I have been disappointed with many seaweed salads at other spots so that was a nice surprise. They delivered in about 40 minutes and I am very very happy. Highly recommend.

Great sushi place if you don't like raw fish or if you're looking for a twist on the traditional. Locals already there loved this place, gave it a nice vibe. THE FOOD: Kanikama Crunch Specialty house crab salad, Tobiko, Crunchy Flakes We ordered this because it gets such high reviews here on Yelp. We didn't see the appeal, wouldn't order again. Honey Moon Roll Ikura Shrimp, Kani-kamaboko, Avocado, Cream Cheese, Shaved Roasted Coconut, Almonds, Walnut Dust, Scallions, Sonali Sauce, Hachimitsu. This roll included some unusual ingredients, but everything was mild-on-mild and the result was a bland roll. There's one missing ingredient, not sure what. Kimchi? Uramaki Mango Roll Salmon, Ikura Shrimp, Avocado, Cilantro, Tobiko Mix, Glazed Mangos, Aji Amrillo Sauce Our second favorite roll, the sushi was good and the aji amrillo sauce an really interesting deviation from traditional sushi. Skinny Tuna Roll Tuna, Seaweed, Avocado, Sliced Almonds, Passion Fruit Sauce (Soy Paper). Our least favorite roll, the passion fruit sauce was so sweet and citrus and was used as an allover sauce rather than a thin accent glaze. Meat Lovers Roll Marinated Churrasco, Sweet Plantain, Cream Cheese, Avocado, Tempura, Chimichurri Sauce on top. Our favorite roll, this was FANTASTIC and I will be back for this one. We got it without cream cheese and with the churrasco cooked medium-rare and it was the "party in your mouth" that you always hope for when you try a new restaurant. Scallop Tiradito Sliced Scallops, Citric Splash, Avocado Mousse We really wanted to try this, but our waiter said that the chef didn't think that day's scallop delivery was acceptable so he sent it back. I heartily approve. So many of the dishes are shrimp tempura based rolls, and cream cheese and imitation crab meat are also common ingredients. This is a great place for introducing people to sushi that aren't ready to eat raw food. If I'm in the area, I'll come in for a meat lovers roll "fix", it was really that good. OTHER: Water - they were attentive and filled as needed Website - easy access to full menu Service - extremely friendly and knowledgeable, food came out at a good pace and we were very well attended Tapas - sushi always allows for sharing Value - reasonable for the area, almost all rolls are 8 pieces so I'd recommend only two items each (we ate way too much!) and you're at 25-30 before drinks

I cannot understand all of these 5 star reviews. The employees that I've encountered were all very nice. The food however- specifically the kanikama & shrimp shumai(I ordered steamed, it was delivered fried) the green apple roll & one other specialty roll- were so over salted I couldn't do more than two bites. This was disappointing because there seems to be less & less sushi places in the area. I really had high hopes but it's been 3 strikes & you are out Ikura. I gave 2 stars for the service & the service alone.

  • Erik H.

Excellent Kanikama crunch and mini tuna tataki for starters We shared two very innovative rolls: Tom-atu Heat and the Skinny Tuna roll with passion fruit sauce - both awesome! Both owners where hands-on and on top of their business. Great service- we will come back soon!

I've already come to Ikura about 4 times and just by saying that it should be no shocker that I have finally found THE sushi place in Miami. The service was amazing the atmosphere is so relaxed and everyone was so nice, But the sushi was what keeps me coming back! Tom atu roll is my favorite and the jalapeño yaita is CRAZY but you have to try the kanikama crunch, I could have this all day!! Definitely going back again and again.

Amazing sushi! I'm a sushi fanatic and this place really rocks! The rolls are very inventive. The variety of sauces is great and the quality is outstanding. Highly recommend the tuna tartar (has it's own twist) and the rocotto and aji amarillo sauces with the rolls.

Our family went for dinner on Friday night. I had been there once before but had forgotten about it. Will not forget this time! The kanikama crunch alone was worth the effort of going. Something about that appetizer's flavor and texture was really unique and delicious, a real joy to eat. I also had a lobster maki which was great. Our waitress was really helpful in recommending dishes and the service was great. We will be back!

This place had promise but the lack of attention on the waitress part was a major turn off. She took forever to take orders, then assumed we only wanted drinks and appetizers... Def not 1 of the greatest experiences. The 1st couple of times I went there, the rolls were phenomenal but this time Chef Chris wasn't there. He personally came to my table the few times I had previously gone to check on the meal and that was very personable and shows he puts his heart into his craft. This time was the total opposite. Service was lacking and the rolls weren't as good as before. I don't know if the staff is new or overwhelmed but this promising spot is def not what is was becoming. I hope the management does whatever it takes to make it work and keep the chef they had cause it definitively makes a difference.

Sushi was simply OK. If you're looking for quality Sushi try Akashi in the gables or south Miami. Won't be coming here again. Pricing was also a bit high. $16-$18 dollars for a roll.

Try the Meat Lover's roll. Not "Japanese" but who cares, it's excellent! The Giralda roll is another good one.

Headed over for lunch with a girlfriend about 2 weeks ago and we both had a nice time. We ordered the sushi tortilla and the chef was nice enough to split it into two mini version as one of us wanted the spice and the other did not. Really went out of his way, especially during a lunch rush.

Weston!

Not the best sushi but it was okay the first time I went. I'll probably check this place out again if there was a groupon or something.

Disappointed. $18 for a simple yellowtail scallion roll?? Fish was fresh, but special rolls not really special. Overall it's kinda pricey for what they offer.

  • K D.

    (2)
  • Erik H.

Excellent Kanikama crunch and mini tuna tataki for starters We shared two very innovative rolls: Tom-atu Heat and the Skinny Tuna roll with passion fruit sauce - both awesome! Both owners where hands-on and on top of their business. Great service- we will come back soon!

  • Lianne Z.

  • Oscar H.

Ask about it and I bet you you will be hooked!!!!

Definitely my favorite sushi place! Best sushi in the 305 especially the crunch appetizer. The jalapeño roll is also amazing!

[ June, 2014 ] Ikura was surprisingly good sushi, and there were some really good options (try the roll topped off with plantains). Definitely recommend giving it a try.
